Ingredients

  • Two cups of lean ground turkey or chicken are required.
  • 1 cup of cooked brown rice
  • 1 cup of diced carrots
  • 1 cup of chopped spinach
  • 1/2 cup of green peas fresh or frozen
  • 1 tablespoon of fish oil rich in omega-3 fatty acids
  • 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed optional, for added fiber
  • 1/2 cup of chicken or vegetable broth low sodium

Instructions

  • Cook ground turkey or chicken:
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground turkey or chicken over medium heat until fully cooked. Make sure to break the meat into small, bite-sized pieces as it cooks.
  • Once cooked, drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  • Prepare the vegetables:
  • While the meat is cooking, steam or lightly cook the carrots, spinach, and green peas until they are soft. This makes them easier for your dog to digest.
  • If using frozen peas, there's no need to cook them separately; you can add them directly to the skillet.
  • Combine the ingredients:
  • In the same skillet with the cooked meat, add the cooked brown rice, carrots, spinach, and green peas. Stir everything together until well combined.
  • Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth to add moisture to the mixture. This helps make the meal more palatable for your dog.
  • Add Nutritional Boosts:
  • Drizzle the fish oil over the mixture for added omega-3 fatty acids, which support your dog’s skin, coat, and overall health.
  • If desired, sprinkle ground flaxseed into the mixture for additional fiber and nutrients.
  • Cool and Serve:
  • Allow the mixture to cool completely before serving it to your dog. You can portion the food into daily servings and store it in the refrigerator for up to five days.
  • Serve the food at room temperature, ensuring your dog gets a wholesome, balanced meal.

Notes

Serving Suggestions:
  • The serving size will depend on your dog’s size, age, and activity level. For a medium-sized dog (about 30-50 pounds), start with about 1 to 1.5 cups of food per meal, adjusting as necessary based on your dog's needs.
  • Always ensure your dog has access to fresh water alongside their meals.
Storage Tips:
  • If you make a larger batch, you can freeze individual portions for up to three months. Simply thaw in the refrigerator overnight before serving.
Nutritional Information:
  • This recipe is rich in protein from the turkey or chicken, providing essential amino acids for muscle development and maintenance.
  • Brown rice adds fiber and slow-releasing carbohydrates, giving your dog sustained energy.
  • The vegetables contribute vital vitamins and minerals, promoting overall health.
  • Fish oil and flaxseed offer omega-3 fatty acids, supporting skin and coat health, as well as anti-inflammatory benefits.
