Preheat and prepare the oven at a temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). The oven should have a lined baking sheet with a layer of parchment paper.
In a bigger bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Now it is time to add the eggs and vanilla essence and blend.
In another bowl, beat the flour, the baking powder, and the baking soda.
Now add the dry ingredients, to wet ones, gradually and mix at the same time until everything comes together.
Stir in chocolate chips or whatever else you have chosen to add.
Shape and roll the dough into big balls and slightly flatten the top of each ball.
Bake in the preheated oven about 10-12 minutes or until the centres are soft but edges are golden brown.
Allow the cookies to cool on the pan for 5 minutes then place onto a cooling rack.
